Only two Volkswagen Golf GTI TCRs were reported for this year’s fourteenth edition of the 24-hour Dubai, but one of them, with the starting number 112, entered the winners.
The glory was attended by the crew of the recently formed Swiss team Autorama motorsport / Volf-Pauer racing composed of Menden – Danc – Metler – Taner – Ogej. This quintet crossed 545 laps at an average speed of 122.06 km / h at the wheel of the DSG of the Wolfsburg car and triumphed at the Dubai Autobahn, with a convincing advantage of 4 laps compared to the first companions.
The Swiss-German curriculum spent the last four hours in a continuous lead in the TCR class, was the first in the TCE turing division, while in the absolute rank of the race ranked as 26 out of 74 participants. For Volkswagen golf this result was a replay of last year, as even then “VW” celebrated in January’s 24-hour race, but in the hands of Likwi prays the team Engstler. The second and third place this time was won by the “TCR teams” of the Dutch teams Bas Kuten raising and Red Camel-Jordans.nl. The third-placed crew left behind 7 laps for the winner, and it reached the lowest stage of the podium, although at one stage of the race, its Cupra # 101 had to be pulled down to the box, because it was left without gasoline!
The most common model in the TCR class was “Audi RS 3 LMS”, but none of the five reported cars reached the podium, but their positions had to satisfy positions 4, 5 and 6. In the TCR class and the TCE division, first it was run by a semi-position winner, Audi RS 3 LMS “DSG # 188 Belgian AC Motorsport. His first technical problem was the failure of the petrol pump. The lead was then taken over by the sister model # 129 of the LMS racing / Bas Kuten racing team with Finnish pilots at the wheel, but only for a short time because the oil pressure dropped this car into boxing and threw it to eighth place in the division.
The British Audi # 138 Team Dynamimix was succeeded by British Audi # 138, but he did not stay there for a long time: because of the problems with the brakes, he hit the fence, he overcame great damage and had to give up on the spot. Not even the only Honda hatchback TC RR in this race, the KCMG auto # 122 with its crew from Hong Kong, was not much better luck. The team, after a temporary lead in the eleventh hour, had a problem starting the “sivik” when leaving the box and fell to third place. Even worse was the result: during the night, at the time when he was the second, the Japanese car set on for unknown reasons, which was decided in Dubai.
He was succeeded by English “Audi” # 138 Tim Dunmeiks, but he did not stay there for a long time: he suffered great damage after hitting the fence and had to give up his place. Not the only “honda sivik type R TCR” in this race, the KCMG auto # 122 with its crew from Hong Kong, was not much better luck. After a temporary lead in the eleventh hour, the team had a problem starting the “sivik” when leaving the box and fell to third place. It was still worse: the Japanese car was lit for more unknown reasons during the night, which was decided in Dubai.
Of the twelve cars in the TCR class, the target of the 24-hour Dubai Marathon arrived at six, and two more went 60% of the distance of the winner (at least 327 laps), thus fulfilling the requirement for the plsaman to register. The “Kupra” Zenge Motorsport with the full Hungarian crew of the eighth is also the last classified car – its performance ended with a fire after 373 crossed circuits.
